The study of the residents’ supportive attitude about eco-tourism-An example of “Phong Nha-Ke Bang” in Viet Nam

碩士 === 國立高雄第一科技大學 === 運籌管理系企業管理碩士班 === 102 === The emphasis of this study is to explore the attitude of the local residents of “Phong Nha- Ke Bang” towards their support on the development of eco-tourism. It also discusses the effect of their background condition (e.g. age, gender, work) on the decision whether or not they would stand up for the development of eco-tourism. In hindsight, this study also considers the understanding that if the development of eco-tourism boosts the economy, rights and socio-cultural issues of the residents, the more they will patronize the development of eco-tourism. Quantitative method was used on the main research of this study. The survey of this paper targeted the local residents living in Phong Nha- Ke Bang. 210 questionnaires were distributed, 204 responses were received (97%), but only 200 are usable (98%). Analytical method, Descriptive statistics, Independent – Sample T-Test, Univariate Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Regression Analysis were used to evaluate the result of the questionnaires. Throughthese relevant statistical analysesmy study found out that: 1. These factsabout the residents - age, gender, race, occupation, duration of time lived on the place, income, level of education, and participation in environmental groups - will cause the differences of each resident’s supportive attitude. 2. The three variables of eco-tourism development, if helpful on economic; rights; andsocio-cultural issues, will have relevant influence on the local resident’s attitude (dependent variable). In other words, the more eco-tourism is helpful for economic, rights, andsocio-cultural issues, the more local residents will support the development of eco-tourism. Based from the results above, this study suggests that the government should be involved on the growth of economic, rights, and socio-cultural issues of the local residents which are considered as the three biggest variables that affect the responsiveness of the local residents to support the eco-tourism development.
