Mandarin songs combine beautiful rhythm with touching lyrics. Additionally, using Mandarin songs in teaching is appealing to instructors in that Mandarin language contains many tones of musical beauty. Therefore, Chinese songs are an excellent Mandarin teaching resource. Recently, Mandarin teaching has gradually focused on students, and Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences emphasizes the stimulation and use of different individual student intelligences. This theory completely matches the concepts of modern Mandarin teaching. Therefore, this research combines classroom use of Mandarin songs with the theory of multiple intelligences, using four modern popular songs of Mayday ( a famous Mandarin music group ) as research material, with the expectation that by using these real songs as teaching materials, this can support language learning for foreign students. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the specialty of sentences within Mayday songs and to discuss how to use these songs for Mandarin teaching. It was discovered among Mayday songs that sentences are very short, but essential, and the contents are common, but emotional and sincere. By focusing on individual issues, societal issues and universal issues in the spirit of creation in the songs, it connects with the majority of people and their emotions, and related Mandarin teaching design is also directly connected with the theory of multiple intelligences. It is designed to reach all aspects of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
