Using Patent Analysis to Investigate the Trend of Technology Development of Optical Transceiver Industry in Taiwan and U.S.

碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 科技管理研究所 === 102 === This thesis applies patent analysis to investigate the manufacturing technology of optical transceiver modules. 274 and 4411 patents, issued in the years 1994 through 2013, are collected from Taiwan and the U.S. respectively. The results from the patent analys...

The results from the patent analysis show that the technologies of Taiwan enterprises mainly focus on alignment, coupling, latching, assembly, monitoring, and modulating. On the other hand, the U.S. enterprises focus mainly on coupling, shielding, and assembly, but Siemens has a significant development in dust-proofing technology. A series of 5-year periods are formulated and patents in each and every period are collected. The findings from those five-year periods are that the Taiwan enterprises have a major progress in technology development during 2001 through 2005. An inventor index is proposed, combined with the quantity of patents and patent active years, it is found that the Taiwan enterprises have opportunities to have significant progress in the area of alignment, latching, dust-proofing, wavelength division multiplexing and monitoring technologies. Meanwhile, tremendous efforts shall be devoted in the development of coupling, shielding, assembly, and modulating technologies. Finally, suggestions, for the Taiwan enterprises about their major domains in future technology development are made. Lee, Shyang-Lin 李祥林 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 134 zh-TW
