Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 物理學系研究所 === 102 === In this thesis, a viewing angle switchable blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC) display is demonstrated. The BPLC display comprises a FFS electrode structure on the bottom substrate and a plain electrode on the top substrate. Driving with FFS electrode on the bottom substrate, BPLC display is in the wide viewing angle mode. Simultaneously driving the cell with the top electrode and FFS bottom substrate, the LC is operated in the vertical alignment mode, in which the oblique light leakage causes the cell to have a narrow viewing angle. For the demand contrast ratio higher than 10, the demonstrate cell has a wide viewing angle larger than 120° and a narrow viewing angle of less than 50° at the wide viewing angle mode and the narrow viewing angle mode, respectively. For the demand contrast ratio higher than 100, after attaching the compensation film, the demonstrate cell has a wide viewing angle larger than 180° and a narrow viewing angle less than 50° at the wide viewing angle mode and the narrow viewing angle mode, respectively.
