Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 政治學研究所 === 102 === Abstract The whole theme about this thesis is mainly focus on U.S.- China confrontation in Asia Pacific region. This thesis explores how U.S. uses TPP as part of Pivot to Asia strategy to rebalance Asia and entrench its power to the region. Then it is unavoidable to consider China’s reaction toward U.S. confrontation. In addition, great amount of attention will be place on the architecture, defining feature and forms of Asian regionalism, so that the whole sketch about distribution of power, history and cultural footprint can be clarified. Moreover, this thesis also aims at providing insights to Taiwan’s decision-makers, scholars and officials by provide comprehensive and true picture of these two agreements. Summarized below are findings from research studies that have especially contributed to the usual understanding of U.S.- China confrontation. First, we can take TPP as the strategic instrument for U.S. to sustain the hegemonic system by strengthening partnership in Asia Pacific region then collecting the regional resource. Secondly, in face of U.S.’ threat, China responds in hedge way, it follows the usual diplomatic mode that deepen the strategic bond with regional partnership, especially ASEAN. China’s current strategic focus is economic development, thus having direct confrontation with U.S. will not be their current option. Moreover, relation between TPP and RCEP tends to be mutually beneficial instead of conflicting. For two of them are actually locating in different integrating stage, TPP adores golden standards like high level of liberalization, while RCEP pays more attention on regional development.
