Along with recent years leisure movement atmosphere being in vogue, foot exercise machine has become one of the most received products in the oxygen fitness equipment market. The needs of comfortable exercise process based on user’s demand, good characteristic is one of necessary keys on designing foot exercise machine. This study aims to establish a systematic design procedure of foot exercise machines which based on engineering design methods. Plan the design procedure of foot exercise machines, and complete the design of foot exercise machines. First, for analyzing patents and the products on market, use SAM to simulate foot exercise machine’s movement, and unify MATLAB to analyze characteristics, for assisting to induce the design demand. With the human body section data and walk/jog in a cycle of the lower limb angle chart, draw the lower limb joint angle change of the path judgment chart; Then, reorganize design demand for establishing the design specification table by objective tree law, ergonomic study, EN-957-9 standard and product data; Next, with one degree of freedom of one kind of four linkage and three kinds of six linkage kinematic chain. Deploy linkage by the innovative mechanical design procedure. Discover usable types of 1 kinds of four-bar linkages and 26 kinds of six-bar linkages. Deletes five types of six-bar linkage with not completing elliptical trace, with 13 types of isomorphism six-bar linkage which have one multiple joint, one kind of four-bar linkage and four kinds of six-bar linkages. Find ten kinds of six-bar linkage which fit the design requirement; Finally, do foot exercise machines’ dimensional synthesis design goal of the target trajectory, with the optimization function of SAM. Get 3 kinds of foot exercise machines. And then, with handbar’s angular acceleration, characteristic and mechanical advantage as the filter, discovers one kind of foot exercise machine’s size which conforms the design demand.
