The influence of Confucianism for over two thousand years affects the lives of the Chinese. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of Confucianism on the level of sports participation of female teachers in elementary schools in Taichung. This study uses content analysis as the research method, comparing and contrasting the documentation of the core thoughts of Confucianism, related journals and papers concerning Confucianism and women participation in sports, and the record of in-depth interviews. The following are the results found: 1. The contributing factors of Confucianism in female elementary school teachers are: a. Family ethics, including family interactions, compliance to the husband, and responsibilities of motherhood. b. Educational aspects. c. Social relationships, including friendships, and completing one’s responsibilities. d. Regimen / Health factors. 2. The impeding factors of Confucianism in female elementary school teachers are: a. Gender stereotypes, including parent expectations, and personal internalization. b. Scholar / academic advancement. c. Family ethics, including family care, marriage structure, and family upbringing. d. Social relationships, including completing one’s responsibilities, and friendships. The conclusions of this study are the following:Family ethics, educational aspects and social relationships are at the same time a contribution and an impediment to the participation in sports of female teachers in elementary schools. Apart from that, regimen / health factors contribute to sports participation, but female stereotypes cause an impediment for sports participation.
