Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 102 === The aim of this thesis is to research the musical content of the choral music of 「Gloria」. The thesis starts off with an introduction which explains the scope and the purpose, and then explores the source and development of mass content. By understanding the background of 「Gloria」 of mass, one can begin learning their related ceremonial applications. The musical performance of various 「Gloria」 chorales in different periods is discussed by assessing their corresponding periods’ styles and characteristics. Based on the literature collection spanning from Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical periods, composers with many mass works such as Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart are selected, and their most popular versions of 「Gloria」 discussed. Fifteen modern choral works were selected for study with emphases on tonality, harmony, rhythm, melodic progressions, structures and various musical elements. Finally, after understanding the musical content and performance techniques of these works, suggestions for musical interpretation and pedagogy are provided for educators, performers and researchers.
