Given that attackers around the world now perform more powerful attacks than before, a libero has to be more comprehensive when handling reception or defense in a game. In addition, physical exertion for single libero in a game has become a challenge for players. Purpose of the study: In 2013 the 6th East Asian Game in Tianjin. Chinese Taipei Men’s volleyball team chose to use double libero. This study focuses on comparing the effect of reception and defense between using double libero and single libero through the case of Chinese Taipei men’s volleyball team. Method: Using the independent sample T test to analyze the records of game between Chinese Taipei men’s volleyball team and its opponents (Hong Kong, China, South Korea, and Japan) in 2013 East Asian Game in Tianjin. The analysis focuses on comparing the effect of the reception and defense between Chinese Taipei men’s volleyball team using double libero and their opponents using single libero. Results: There is no significant difference in the performance of reception between using double libero and single libero; however, significant differences in the performance of defense (p<.05) were found in the comparison between using double libero and single libero. This study suggests that players grasp the opportunity of defensive counterattack to score, increase the success rate when receiving a serve, and try to use double libero more in the future.
