A Status Quo Survey of the Cross-age Classrooms in Public Kindergartens in Taitung and NanTou Counties

碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 幼兒教育學系碩士班 === 102 === This study aims to examine the difficulties public kindergarten teachers confronted in the cross-age classrooms in remote areas of Taitung and Nantou counties. 175 public kindergarten teachers from 21 villages and townships participated in the survey. They completed a questionnaire concerning the age range of their classes, as well as the major difficulties when running the class. Descriptive statistics and techniques of stepwise regression were used in the data analysis. The results showed that: (1) Four factors were identified as having impacts on the difficulties experienced by the teachers of cross-age classrooms: the existence of very young children, the limited classroom resources, teachers’ beliefs about peer scaffolding, and parents’ expectation and socioeconomic status. (2) the mentioned 4 factors were highly inter-correlated. Suggestions were provided for teachers’ training institutes and future researchers.
