Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 教育學系(所) === 102 === This research aims to investigate knowledge, skills and character developments of high school students after they participated in multidimensional energy saving and carbon reduction activities. Students who engaged in this research originated from The Affiliated Senior High School of National Kaohsiung Normal University and National Feng-Hsin Senior High School. Qualitative data analysis was done on data from feedback forms filled by students following the activities. Activities for this multifaceted research involved learning from seminars, visits, experiences and also servicing others. Knowledge, skills and characters of high school students had positive outcomes. The students were exposed to the latest situation and developments in the energy saving and carbon reducing field. They garnered skills to create and assemble energy reducing technological modules. Communication skills were also learned in order for demonstrations during service learning. In terms of character building, high school students were both motivated and inspired about the importance of saving energy and reducing carbon footprints. They also gained a sense of achievement and enhanced their beliefs through service learning. More importantly, with the ability to implement energy saving and carbon behavior in daily lives, the high school students also acknowledge the need to advocate for energy saving and carbon reduction. This multifaceted study benefited the participating high school students in terms of advancing their knowledge, skills and character building. There are still two recommendations to make: 1. Adjust the ratio of seminars, visits, experiential and service learning in future studies. It is anticipated that higher involvement of experiential learning allows more profound awareness of the case being studied. 2. Activities and their topics in service learning can be revised to reflect energy saving and carbon reduction more appropriately to increase effectiveness.
