Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 音樂學系 === 102 ===    Gerald Finzi is a British Romantic composer in the first half 20th century. Expertising in the British literature, he is notable for his effort to collect and preserve literature pieces, which also places great influence on his music. Though Finzi is best known for his vocal works, his instrumental works are also prominent. The Clarinet Concerto, Op.31, written in 1949, is lyrical, emotional, expressive and sensitive, of which the melody is such an unique contribution to the clarinet repertoire in a strong individual style.   Via searching education website, books, dissertation as resource, this thesis is conducted with the composer’ s background to realize the experience with which he wrote into the music, and furthermore with analyzing the work, Clarinet Concerto, through practicing the performance interpretation. The final step is to reach a deeper understanding and appropriate interpretation.   This thesis comes out with 5 chapters. Chapter 1 states the motivation and purposes of this thesis, the research procedures, the literature review, and outlines of the research framework. Chapter 2 provides a biographical sketch of life and musical influence of Finzi. Chapter 3 synthesizes the process of the composition and then analysis this piece in detail. Chapter 4 proposes the author’s interpretation and suggestions of this piece. The last chapter summarizes the research and concludes this thesis.
