| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 視覺傳達設計學系碩士班 === 102 === Dunhuang Mural is a broad and profound world heritage, and the Flying Apsaras among the cultural heritage are even the essence of history, culture and art in Tang Dynasty. Flying Apsaras carry the significant value of the Eastern and the Western cultures and the concepts of Oriental ideas. The excavations of Dunhuang grottoes started from the period of the Sixteen Kingdoms to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, while Buddhism art became mature during the time. The gorgeous and elegant forms of Flying Apsaras in Tang Dynasty feature the unique style and profound symbolization, which is also an example of glorifying the doctrines of Buddhism as well as the lubricant among the Buddhists simultaneously. Therefore, Flying Apsaras is known as the most significant Oriental classical art presentation and symbolization.
This thesis is based on the studies of Dunhuang Flying Apsaras in Tang Dynasty, whichexlpores the cultural content of Flying Apsaras through the approaches of literatures, motifs and styles. From the understanding and analyses of the Flying Apsaras in Tang Dynasty as examples to propose the apprecation of Dunhuang Flying Apsaras in contemporary designs, then transform into a series of creative works in the end. The content of the projects include three major categories as “ Eternal Flying Apsaras ”, “ Gandha Puspa Apsaras ”, and “ Apsaras Gathering Celebration ”. The motivation of making Eternal Flying Apsaras derives from the protection of the cultural heritage, and the components include the Full Moon and the Crescent Moon. Through the expression of illustrations to translate the pass of time; however theFlying Apsaras still show the eternal grace. The Gandha Puspa Apsaras concentrate on the symbolization of blessing, and the categories include druming, dancing, flying, musical instrument playing, and multiple-arm blessing with the background of flowers to indicate the elegance of Flying Apsaras.The series of Apsaras Gathering Celebration carry four panels of art works as joyfulness, delight, auspiciousness, and good fortune. Through the technique of paper cutting to communicate the symbolic concepts.
Regarding the design applications of Flying Apsaras, there are table light, clocks, note books, and scarfs, etc. which I made to create the contemporary artistic value of Flying Apsaras as well as to promote the cultural creative designs in our daily life.
