Miaoli county is the only one whose whole towns are Major Hakka Cultural Areas. In Hakka towns, the people usually have the notion that not only males but also females have the duty to get married. The researcher who lives in Miaoli is curious that how the single middle-aged females cope with the convention mentioned above. And the study aimed to explore their notions of marriage, leisure life, social discrimination and career planning by deeply interviewing with eight single middle-aged females. The results of the study revealed several important findings: 1. The more open-minded the parents keep, the less aspiration for marriage the children have. 2. Keeping single is fashionable. 3. Building the environment which accommodates the aged is important. 4. Being prepared against want is the best way. Suggestions for single middle-aged females: 1.Take care of herselves. 2. Learn to be lonely. 3. Increase their social life. 4. Find joy in their own. Suggestions for married women: 1.More communication leads less disappointment. 2. Manage home finances together. 3. Survive in miseries. 4. Start afresh. Suggestions for governments: 1. Maturing activities are more popular. 2. Establish human resources agency system by legislating. 3. Construct the comprehensive long-term care system. 4. Strengthen the protections of financial consumers. In aged society, the healthy treatments and social welfare are more important for females because theirs life expectancy is higher than males'. The study shared the eight single middle-aged females' life stories with other females for their planning and leading better later lives.
