Nantou, Chungliao Township is an inland mountain area, in the process of ancestors' reclamation, Chankui Zush belief was brought along with immigrants. When distinct ethnic groups coexisted, different customs raised conflicts and indirectly caused the reclamation people to enshrine Chankui Zush. The establishment of Temple was in Qing Dynasty, till now it has 300 years of history. Due to praying for spiritual solace and the personal and property safety, reclamation people carried sea-crossing incense bags of Chankui Zush with them to bless peace, thus further developed to establish a temple to enshrine Chankui Zush. This study explores the evolution of Chankui Zush belief, language and propagation in Zhongliao Township, Nanto County via five main axes, including “Exploration of Chankui Zush Belief”, “Relationship between Chankui Zush Belief and Ethnic Group”, “Chankui Zush Belief, Settlement Reclamation and Religious Sphere”, “The Structure and Change of Taiwanese Religious Beliefs”, and “ Mana of Religious Field.” The study found that the development of Chankui Zush belief has become the cross-ethnicity and Fujian and Guangdong co-enshrining God. The boundaries of ethnic group became increasingly blurred; over time and the change of social function, the function of beliefs also transformed gradually in the hearts of believers; thus further set up Nantou Chankui Zush Association, holding annual procession event to flourish their faith. Secondly, because the changes of population structure caused the changes of language, the early Zhaoan folks who opened up Jhongliao have forgotten their own language, they spoke four-county-accent, sea-land accent Hakka languages or the Min dialects instead, the boundaries of Min and Hakka have dispelled; the only way of exploration is the ancestral hometown research. The main enshrined God of temples has a certain popular period, the God currently possessing the most worshiping believers will be set up as the main God, in this way, not only it can bring popularity gathering, but also can bring temples abundant funds, facilitating temple activities. Mana needs to be produced, and the mana production needs to coordinate people and money, furthermore, behind the rituals involves the piling up of Mana and power. Only now the population of Chungliao drops dramatically, it is unable to gather enough people to conduct temple activities; therefore, the league of villages must be co-constituted, together to ally and mutual aid, in order to link a greater belief area. 碩士 === 國立聯合大學 === 客家語言與傳播研究所 === 102 === This paper uses qualitative research methods, through fieldwork, in-depth interviews and participant observation, to explore the conversion of Chankui Zush belief culture, analyze the evolution of Chungliao ethnic population structure and language, and to further explore the propagation change of Chankui Zush; and its research scope is Zhongliao Township, Nanto County.
This study explores the evolution of Chankui Zush belief, language and propagation in Zhongliao Township, Nanto County via five main axes, including “Exploration of Chankui Zush Belief”, “Relationship between Chankui Zush Belief and Ethnic Group”, “Chankui Zush Belief, Settlement Reclamation and Religious Sphere”, “The Structure and Change of Taiwanese Religious Beliefs”, and “ Mana of Religious Field.”
The study found that the development of Chankui Zush belief has become the cross-ethnicity and Fujian and Guangdong co-enshrining God.
