This thesis examines the monograph as a main statement and includes viewpoints on modern drama, dramatic theory and its modern practices, as well as the playwritings of Chen Qu-Bing(陳去病), the chief editor of the Great Stages in 20th Century. In addition to the publication of The Great Stages in 20th Century, this thesis explores the evolution of performance stage space and the performers’ ascension of the social hierarchy. Thereby, it shows the association between scholars and performers as Chinese drama moved into a modern age. Furthermore, the play scripts served an important role in democratic revolution. Besides to effected drama practice and theme, it improve the status of performer in China. The Great Stages in 20th Century show national integrity in historical people and events to impact audience by drama characters, and took aim at public education to drama reform. Secondly, this publication used common actor's lines to improve the drama acceptability to the audience, and the appearance is quite worthy of being researched by drama rewriting and theory reform. Lastly, the thesis wants to explain is that Chen Qu-Bing took meaningful new-drama(新劇) which has educational value instead of old-drama(舊劇) which was unreconstructed. He used theme of brand new and creative work of breakthrough to inject young blood of Chinese drama. Although political conditions was on the decline in later Qing dynasty, a new power of revolution was on the increase. From drama to political, the Great Stages in 20th Century is not only a magazine, but also a witness of political revolution in modern times.
