The coexistence “plainness and peculiarity" is found in his poems. The author intends to analyze his portrait works from the perspective of “rhetoric", hoping to explore the expression types of the verses and the artistic effects. The research papers on Zhang Ji have seen an increase in recent years with most of them focusing on the exploration on the content and form of the yuefushi (poems in the folksong lyrical form) , while the studies on the rhetoric remain very limited. Therefore it is hoped that the artistic achievements of the point to works of Zhang Ji can be better understood through the study of this subject. The author adopted text study, history study and the rhetorical study to analyze the text from the 490 poems of Zhang Ji which cover all the poetic styles including gushi (or pre-Tang ancient poetry), jueju (poetic form consisting of four lines of five or seven syllables, with rhymes on first, second and fourth line), lushi (including long poems in lushi form) or regular verse (strict poetic form with eight lines of 5, 6 or 7 syllables and even lines rhyming), yuefushi. This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter explains the motivation of this study and provides a review of relevant studies. The second chapter analyzes the life of Zhang Ji's with an aim to explore the background factors affecting his writing of the poems. Section 3 of the chapter deals with three main philosophical ideas (Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism) to demonstrate that a thematic mind is an expression of passive rhetoric. Verse styles covered in this chapter include setting off, metonymy, quoting, transformation, metaphor and depiction. Chapter 4 analyzes the figures which are in line with moods found in Zhang Ji’s works and these include hyperbole ,euphemism ,rhetorical questioning and demonstration ; for the verse-level figures : antithesis, repetition, anadiplosis and intrication. Chapter 5 analyzes the language style of Zhang Ji‘s poetry. Chapter6 summarizes his rhetorical approach and its effect. Lee C.K. 李建崑 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 195 zh-TW
