The flexibility, rigidity, and elasticity can be adjusted by controlling the ratio of soft segments and hard segments. Due to its versatile physical properties, TPU is commonly used in transportation, construction, and biomaterials. However, the technique of producing TPU foam by CO2 is still under investigation. Our laboratory previously prepared nanoporous TPU foam using commercially available TPU. In this study, TPU was synthesized using 4, 4’-methylene bis-(phenyl isocyanate) (MDI), poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) and 1,4-butanediol(BD) without solvent using a pre-polymer method. The remaining NCO groups in the TPU were determined by titration of pre-polymer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis (Differential scanning calorimetry, (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analyzer, (TGA) and mechanical properties). The synthesized TPU was foamed by batch foaming using scCO2 as the blowing agent, and the effect of saturation temperature, saturation pressure and saturation time to the cell morphology TPU foam was examined.
