Accordingly, Russia was committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with countries in the region of CIS, thus promoting regional economic integration. In the regional economic integration, process under the framework of CIS the, Russia as a powerful country has been playing an indispensable and important role. Through the perspective of geopolitical, geo-economic and international political economy this article explores the Russia’s endeavors to promote regional economic integration in the CIS region, and through the study of existing economic organizations ─ the Eurasian Economic Community, to analyze the role of Russia in the CIS regional economic integration, the problems and obstacles faced in the process, and how to use its influence to achieve its political objectives. The author concludes that through the regional economic integration, Russia aims to strengthen its influence and economic presence in the CIS region, so as to establish its own geo-political and geo-economic role, which not only make Russia achieve its geo-strategic advantages but also maintain the hegemony in the CIS region.
