Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 102 === The purpose of this thesis is to obtain an in-depth view on Johannes Brahms ‘Sonata No. 3 for Violin and Piano in D Minor, Op. 108’. By aggregating the literatures related to the composer’s musical background, the characteristics of his compositional style and other information, the author can comprehend the style and the form of this piece better. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the author’s research goal and motive, the content of this thesis, and the methods of doing this research. The second chapter is about Brahms’s background and his compositional style and characteristics. Also, this chapter involves the research of the distinguishing feature and historical backgound of his three violin sonatas. Chapter three is the analysis of the work, the author discusses ‘Sonata No. 3 for Violin and Piano in D Minor, Op. 108’ in detail. Important elements such as stucture, harmonic progression, rythm, motives, phrases…etc. are examined. The fourth chapter is about interpretation and technique related to performance. The author provides her interepretation perspective according to Brahms’s compositional style and the analysis of this piece. In addition, the author talks about techniques when playing the piece. The last chapter is the summary of this thesis.
