Consider the possibility of establishing independent museums from the present situation of the photography collection of Taiwan

碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 博物館學與古物維護研究所 === 102 === Recently, calls for the establishment of photography museum gradually, starting in 2007 the establishment of the Preparatory Office of the Taiwan Museum of Photography, which level up to pre-opening museum in 2010, the National Museum of Photography Action Coalition almost relentless promotion. In 2013, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Society of Photographic Museum and Culture of Taiwan has finally started the assessment of project and held many session of public forum around Taiwan. Also, Minister of the Ministry of Culture Lung Ying-tai has said the expedition of Photographic Museum was scheduled when visit Europe. However, Taiwan's museum and has many photography collections already, so, in Taiwan, photography museum establish or not, there was support and opposition; Situation of photographic collection in the museum has become a focus of discussion. Supporters argue that the country has still not professional photography collection, even marginalized, and thus need to strengthen the research and promotion as a museum function, but it really necessary to set up the museum in order to improve the collect environment of photography? How was the situation of these collections? This study aims to investigate: Today Taiwan's museum has may collection of photographs already, then review from the existing environment and circumstances, is really needed establish an independent museum of photography? After analyzing the content of photographic collections and documents now in Taiwan and interviewing by interview method, we found that the collection environment in Taiwan is not well and it is necessary to set up an independent organization. But the funds of internal buildings are already insufficient; therefore there is low possibility to establish a national museum. Furthermore, Ministry of Culture has started preparing to establish a Center of Photography. Internal photographic collections are also facing problems, for example both the process artists creating and their works are digitized and the authority of copyright is unclear. If the center once established and want to store photographic works up, the definition and classification of works also the copyright identification would be the challenges.
