With the evolution and social changes, university museums should step out of the ivory tower. On the one hand, they have to use the resources of the university, with the advantage of teaching and research; on the other hand, they should attract different audiences, providing the public with the opportunities of lifelong learning and recreational functions. University museums play different roles and functions between the university and society, in order to serve teachers and students as well as general audiences, finding the balance and sustainability. The National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Museum was established in November 2007, and is the first university museum with the organization articles of set in the National University. This research conducted a questionnaire survey inquiring actual visitors of the NCKU Museum and later used the SPSS statistics software as the information analysis tool. The researcher hopes to analysis the ideas and awareness of audiences towards the NCKU Museum. The results of the research have been found, depicted as following; among the audiences who visited the NCKU Museum, male and female proportion are almost equal; most of audiences aged between 19 and 40; most of audiences are students; most visitors have university degree; most of them live outside Tainan City; they used car as the major transport vehicles, but many still are on foot or ride a motorcycle. In addition, 80% of them are not NCKU students or staff and most of them visited the NCKU Museum for first times; most of audiences think the NCKU Museum meet their expectation. Generally speaking, most audiences are not fully aware the role and functions of the NCKU Museum. The results of the research can be summarized as follows: 1. The role of the University Museum should change with the times and make proper adjustments. 2. The audiences are not aware of the roles and functions of the University Museum. 3. The University Museum should maintain basic audience of teachers and students of the university, and then expand the diversity of audiences from outside. Some recommendations for future research of University Museums are as follows: 1. The role of the University Museum should be clear and build its own distinguishing features. 2. The University Museum should develop a greater diversity of audience groups. 3. The University Museum should extend its services, research and educational functions to have a complementary effect. 4. The University Museum should strengthen efforts on marketing and publicity, in order to improve the willingness of visitors. Although the University has its basic audience from the faculty of teachers and students, the University Museum still have to think about its sustainability just like any other museums. It will also depend on the audience, to increase the diversity of the audience, and meet different needs of both teachers and students on campus and the general audience of outside campus. This study hopes to provide some food for thoughts for the future research on university museums and their sustainabilities. 曾信傑 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 119 zh-TW
