The case of Ganjuran church, for instance, shows Gamelan with the central Java Yogyakarta style as an accompaniment for Mass. Although the rest of Catholic church in Yogyakarta, such as Gamping, for example, did not have Gamelan with choir in general days, there is the Gamelan group invited by church on Easter. It means, at least in Yogyakarta, that Gamping would try to imitate the modal of Inculturation in Ganjuran. Within such context, I argue that it is reasonable to integrate Gamelan and westernized choir into one ensemble. It turns out that either the ritual atmosphere made by Gamelan, or the composition taken by traditional elements, are showing the harmonized relationship between practical performance and ritual meanings. Thus, instead of emphasizing such practical situation again, I rather focus on the musical concept in difference, such as “the concept of conductor”, rhythm and notation. Therefore, when we try to make connection between two different genres, it is necessary to understand it based on traditional Gamelan way, rather than the concept of westernized choir.
