Products available on the market usually combine with a Bluetooth module, ring and the Android application. The proximity function works by detecting the strength of received signal. It is easy to find that relationship between distance and received signal strength is not linear at all. The variation of launching power of cell phone due to automatic gain control scheme make the decision of distance becomes worse. With real measurement of some blue-tooth based product, the relationship between distance and received signal strength is detailed analyzed. Finally, we propose the "RSSI weighted" algorithm to make the proximity function work well. Of course, we also discuss about strengths and weakness of our proposed algorithm.
