Questionnaire was employed in the study. The valid sample subjects, 709 students, were selected from eight junior high schools in Taiwan with a stratified cluster sampling. “Parental Bonding Scale”, “Self-concept Scale” and “Deviant Behavior Scale” were used to collect data, and the data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results showed: (a) Parenting ranked highest in parenting styles, followed by parental caring, monitoring and neglect. (b) Moral direction ranked highest in self-concept, followed by self-toughness and self-value. (c) Deviant behavior was rare among jumior high school students. (d) (i) Junior high school students of different genders and grades were not different in parenting. (ii) Junior high school students of different genders and grades were statistically significant different in self-concept. (iii) Junior high school students of different genders and grades were statistically significant different in delinquency. (e) (i) Deviant behavior was negatively correlated to prental caring, monitoring and parenting and were positively correlated to parental neglect. (ii) Deviant behavior was negatively correlated to moral direction, self-toughness.(f) (i)Parenting showed most significant impact on deviant behavior among all parenting styles. (ii) Moral direction had the most impact on deviant behavior. (iii) Comparing parenting styles and self- concept, moral direction had most impact on deviant behavior. (g) Parenting, moral direction, self-value, self-toughness and gender had a negative influence on deviant behavior while parental neglect and grade had a positive influence after including gender and grade. According to the findings, this study provides some suggestions for parents, junior high school students, academic educators , and further researches.
