Description
Summary:碩士 === 台南應用科技大學 === 音樂系碩士班 === 102 === Aaron Copland received a huge success of his musician life. He was one of famous composers in the United States. He wrote a lot of music reviews and books while he was focusing on his compositions. His music and teaching inspired many young composers. In the period of 1940s, Copland composed a lot of music which was related to strong patriotism during the war. This Sonata was composed to commemorate his friend who died in the war. His composing technique remarkably affected by neoclassicism at the same time. Technique of composition he used were the major third harmony of widely register, simple motive, and pristine melody. The brisk rhythm and leaping style of his melody reflected his unique way of composing music. This essay is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces Copland’s entire life and the background of the Sonata. The second chapter includes the analysis of three movements of this Sonata. The interpretation will be discussed in the final chapter. Through the research, I would like to achieve the goal to understand Copland’s technique of composition more deeply, as well as making appropriate interpretation of his work.
