Description
Summary:博士 === 長榮大學 === 經營管理研究所 === 103 === While a patient safety culture is a relatively new topic, it is a core element in improving both patient safety and the quality of care. Past systematic review research does not provide details of the quantitative and objective overview of this field. Therefore, the aims of this study is to construct the intellectual structure of this emerging issue based on an integrated bibliometric approach. This work searched the Web of Science database collection using keywords method, identified a total of 1,364 documents and retrieved 48,948 cited references for patient safety climate or culture published from 1992 to 2014. The most-cited articles and references were profiled and analyzed, using citation analysis to create a historiograph, using co-citation analysis to map a sociogram, and using citation-based main path analysis to derive the development path. This study find that the historiograph show three historical trajectories, including of research in hospitals, research in ICUs and establish the causal model. In addition, the sociogram clearly present the phenomenon, from patient safety studies to patient safety culture studies, and from safety climate studies to the patient safety climate studies. Furthermore, the patient safety climate/culture studies can be divided into three stages: the development of measurement tools and survey, establish the causal model, and the application across countries based on the development path. In general, an integrated bibliometrics approach is very useful for researchers and practitioners interested in the field of patient safety to provide integral and clear evolution of the patient safety climate/culture studies, and for suggesting new research directions or alternative research priorities.
