The research explores the meaning of independent travel play in retirement plans of mature teachers. By conducting qualitative research methods, the research selects seven elementary and junior high school teachers for semi-structural in-depth interviews. According to the results of the research, the characteristics of mature teacher’s overseas independent travel are as follows. 1、Safety is the top priority, so they often travel in group. 2、Harmonic relationships are significant during journey. Members are willing to communicate and endure each other in order to maintain harmony. 3、Utilizing internet to make travel plans, the technical skills of mature teachers make improvements by keeping pace with the times. 4、Their travel motivations are diverse, and the main motivation is for recreation. 5、The significant factors to attract mature teachers choosing independent travel are economy and the sense of freedom. 6、Travel experiences enhance diversity of teaching facets of mature teachers. 7、Mature teachers adjust to making the optimal travel pattern based on growing age and the increase of travel experiences. 8、Enthusiastic retired mature teachers still travel persistently with increasing frequency. The research proposed that mature teachers combine charity and volunteering with independent travel, so that retirement and travel can make a perfect match, making relevant suggestions for subsequent researchers.
