Understanding of diabetes risk factors may help prevent the disease. This study was aimed to investigate whether hepatitis C patients than the general population have a higher chance of developing diabetes. This study is a secondary data analysis, sampling millions of people file owned National Health Insurance database of academic research (LHID2000) as sources of information, from 2000 to 2003 was first diagnosed with hepatitis C in patients over the age of 20 for the study . Excluded patients had been diagnosed two years ago with diabetes hepatitis C, cirrhosis, hypertension, high cholesterol and liver or kidney transplant surgery. Another use of propensity score matching method, according to age, sex and the same exclusion criteria, to 1: 4 by way of pairing. Tracking the study and control group with seven suffering from the situation observed during the second type of diabetes to be survival analysis Cox regression model. Hepatitis C patients qualify for the study of 2603 people have control group without diagnosis of hepatitis C 10433 people, C liver of patients suffering from diabetes incidence rate of 15.6%, higher than non-patients suffering from hepatitis C incidence of diabetes 7.6%, and the level of statistical significance (p <0.001). Hepatitis C infection survival analysis of the risk of developing diabetes than 2.237 times the non-infected persons, 0.333 times if after interferon treatment for hepatitis C infection than the risk of developing diabetes was untreated. Studies confirm hepatitis C increases the risk of diabetes, but if after hepatitis C patients after interferon treatment, can reduce the risk of developing diabetes, hoping to provide reference to health services, the imperative can prevent or reduce the incidence of diabetes.
