Summary: | 碩士 === 朝陽科技大學 === 營建工程系 === 103 === In recent years, the rebar coupler made of weldable frictional steel were used for columns in more than 90% of the reinforced concrete (RC) structures in Taiwan. In practice, weldable deformed steel (SD420W) and high strength deformed steel (SD420) are the 2 major raw steel materials of which the welded frictional rebar couplers were made and most commonly used. With the use of the results of tensile resistance tests for the column reinforcing rebar, the study was conducted to compare the differences in mechanical properties and characteristics of the rebar couplers using the two raw steel materials. The conclusions of the study revealed that the use of rebar coupler made of the weldable deformed steel (SD420W) could result in better quality for columns in reinforced concrete structures.
The study was carried out based on a practical construction project currently in progress for the headquarters of the Taichung City Police Department, in which welded frictional rebar couplers were used throughout the project for most of the columns constructed. The research topics in the study include:
1. Development of the in-situ inspection procedure of raw materials and overall SOP for storage management prior and after the installation of rebar couplers.
2. Review and summary of the specifications for labor and field works related to the application of the rebar couplers.
3. Review and investigation of the test results and design analyses with respect to field work manual and specification as to provide general guidelines for construction quality control for future similar projects.
In the wake of inconsistence in codes and manuals currently used in practice for various types of rebar coupler, the results of the study suggest that systematic uniformity is necessary for advancement of the construction quality of projects using the studied welded frictional rebar coupler.
