The Effect of Integrating Information Technology into Music Instruction on Student Music Learning Motivation, Attitude and Engagement – A Study of Junior High School

碩士 === 大葉大學 === 管理學院碩士在職專班 === 103 === People’s life in the 21st century is subject profoundly to the information technology practically in every aspect, and so is the art of music. Since technology evolves every day and music is an essential part of education, music educators should incorporate information technology as the aid for their teaching activities. This study was intended to investigate the influence on the motivation, attitude and ultimately engagement in music learning of junior students in music class with information technology incorporation in music teaching as the independent variable. A questionnaire was distributed among a group of junior high school students and 696 valid samples were collected. The statistic analysis program, SPSS, and structural equation model program, AMOS, were introduced to test the research model and hypotheses. The analysis results suggested that the information technology incorporation in music classes helps improve students’ motivation of, attitude toward and in turn engagement in their learning activates. In addition to the above-mentioned, other findings were: (1) information technology incorporation in music teaching activities is widely accepted among junior high school teachers and students; (2) students’ motivation of music learning has significant influence on their attitude toward music learning; (3) the motivation of music learning has indirect influence on the engagement in music learning through the attitude toward music learning. Therefore, the information technology equipment should be enriched for music learning in junior high schools. Music teachers should make a good use of information technology equipment in their teaching activities in order to improve junior high school students’ engagement in music learning.
