To increase people’s awareness of such restrictions, this study used the conclusion of social science research about restrictions of women in housing space to examine if restrictions of Taiwanese women in housing space have stemmed from subjective thoughts and also explore how people view and get along with each other. In this study, images, one of the most effective form of media, were used to depict restrictions of women in housing space. Based on “fusion of horizons” in hermeneutics, six women from different age groups were interviewed to form the basis for the author’s creation of interpretative works and graphic visual designs. The author attempted to stimulate people’s awareness of the current restrictions of women in housing space and investigate the procedure and steps of illustrating text descriptions in images. Results showed that modern women are more restricted by themselves than by traditional values, and women restricted in housing space can, in fact, also be the creator of their own space. In this study, the author created 11 works in four groups. The first two groups show the current restrictions of women in housing space; the third group illustrates the process of growth of self-consciousness in women; the last group focuses on the stage where women become a creator of their own space. It was found that interpretative works based on fusion of horizons are the communication and mutual understanding that continue unceasingly between the creator, viewers, and the works. Through this series of works, the author attempted to provide the principles, methods, and steps of creating interpretative works that can better reflect social issues based on fusion of horizons. In addition, the author also hoped that her creative works can motivate viewers to reflect on restrictions of women in space, helping women to regain their self-value and control over their own space.
