Summary:碩士 === 華梵大學 === 東方人文思想研究所 === 103 === Humanistic Buddhism currently takes the lead in the development of Buddhism and it is considered a modern trend developed from regionalization to internationalization in the form of points, lines and planes. Humanistic Buddhism features the implementation of dharma in the human world. The philosophy was initially brought out by Master Taixu, who used the term “Buddhism for the Human World” later on specified by Master Yin Shun, popularizing the term “Humanistic Buddhism.” The philosophy has long been developed by Master Hsing Yun’s Fo Guang Shan Sangha, Master Sheng Yen’s Dharma Drum Mountain Sangha and Master Cheng Yen’s Tzu Chi Foundation. They have further made the philosophy of humanistic Buddhism widely known, having a great influence on Taiwan’s society. Keelung’s Ji-le Temple is a religious center that boasts a century-old history. Being donated to Fo Guang Shan by Master Hsui Hui in 1983, mortal engagement of humanistic Buddhism long been Master Hsing Yun’s philosophy has been the mainstream in Ji-le Temple. The thesis mainly deals with the content and development of humanistic Buddhism through documentary analysis that helps collect concerning texts and develops main idea. The author will analyze how Ji-le Temple practices the new philosophy based on the humanistic Buddism through observation and induction. Based on the concept of humanistic Buddhism, Je-le Temple has been introducing concerning activities to the public with fruition. For example, it has founded the Pumen Magazine to popularize the philosophy of Buddhism, held multiple speeches of Buddhist texts and Dharma chanting discussions to delve into the wisdom in Buddhism, and invited the public to partake in art and Buddhist text workshops, incorporating dharma with their lives. Moreover, volunteers usually share Buddhistic stories on campus, preach dharma in prisons to spread the mercy and hold Buddhist rituals to comfort people by worshiping Buddha and repenting of sins. All of these activities prove that Ji-le Temple has been striving to practice dharma in more humanistic way, which contributes a lot to the development of Buddhism in Keelung.
