He argues that objectiveness is not the main point while interpreting. We should focus on “How could it be possible to understand? ” Therefore, he tries to investigate “What is understanding?” but not to provide a method of attaining the truth in the book Truth and Method. For Gadamer, understanding is a reaction that we get involved in tradition. It’s the being of ourselves and always influenced by “prejudice” and “historically effected consciousness”. It begins while we have contact with tradition, there is a conversation between tradition and us. With the dialectic of question and answer, understanding exists and is replaced all the time. Therefore, we attain the truth that has the trait of openness and problematic. To sum up, “the process of understanding is also linguistic.” Hermeneutics becomes a philosophical discussion of being, understanding, history and linguistics hence it is the being of language. This is what the thesis aims to focus on while explores Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics. Lin, Wei-Chieh 林維杰 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 58 zh-TW
