Therefore, this study conducted a three-year (2011-2013) investigation into 36 branches of Bank K, and evaluated operating efficiency of each bank using data envelopment analysis, super efficiency model and Malmquist index. Following conclusions were made from empirical findings: 1. Efficiency analysis 11 optimum-size branches account for 1/3 of total branches. It is indicated that there is space for improving overall operating efficiency of Bank K. That’s to say, branches in state of optimum size have best benefit, best operating efficiency and lowest production cost. 2. Super efficiency analysis With regard to super efficiency, Dazhi branch ranked the first in terms of technical efficiency in both 2011 and 2012. In 2013, Business Department ranked the first in terms of technical efficiency. Analysis of super efficiency data for years 2011-2013 shows that branches occupying the first 30 places in terms of operating efficiency for three consecutive years are: Dazhi branch, Business Department and Bo’ai branch. 3. Productivity analysis by Malmquist index Overall productivity index of Bank K is recessionary. The top three branches with greatest increase in productivity index for 2011-2012 are: Qianjin branch, Yancheng branch and North Kaohsiung branch. Gangshan Benjhou branch presents the biggest decline in productivity index. The top three branches having greatest increase in productivity index for 2011-2013 are: Gangshan Benjhou branch, Dazhi branch and North Kaohsiung branch.
