Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用中國文學系碩士在職專班 === 103 === Yeh Chen, (1959 - 2012), taking literature as spiritual sustenance, dedicated to family history writing not only as a way of healing but also as a lifelong career for a reason, and behind her dedication are his struggling turbulent experiences since her childhood, being born in one of the decent families in Tanan City, raised in a family with complicated family member relationships, and furthermore suffering from prejudice and turmoil due to his "funny face" - hemifacial microsomia in his right face. In her "A Memory of Chikan" novel series, Chen created a unique historical novel of her extended family characterized with a mix of fiction and non-fiction stories on the basis of factual story of her own extended family and historical events. Her brave writing style of seeking for self-healing through reshaping the family stories and transforming from the darkness encountered in lifetime and depicting the history from common people''s viewpoint, especially from the angle of a female person indeed deserves reflections from the next generations. This study aims to explore the said novel series as the scope of research, with the intent of launching a pioneering study on Chen''s family writing. This study falls into six chapters, Chapter 1. Explaining the motivation and purpose of the study, defining the scope of study, and briefing an overview of the existing research literatures; Chapter 2. Aiming to analytically explore Chen''s own life history and the stages of her writing; Chapter 3. Giving a clear picture of the basic structure of the Lin''s family in her novel series by viewing the three aspects namely the kinship tree, characters and images, and emotional communications; Chapters 4 and 5. Examining respectively the thematic subject and the specialty style of writing; and Chapter 6. Deliberating the meaning of writing the novel series for Chen herself and the value and standing of the novel series in terms of literature history, and serving as the conclusions.
