Smaller firms and creative people can use crowdfunding to realize their dreams more quickly than has been possible in the past. On April 5, 2012, the US government signed the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS) in an effort to encourage startups and provide further opportunities for employment. This Act comprises six titles; title III is the Crowdfund Act, which stipulates how equity crowdfunding is to be carried out. This Act serves as a bulwark to ensure diversity in fundraising channels and increase listed companies, thereby boosting national economic growth. This study conducted in-depth interviews with the research staff and operators of crowdfunding platforms to explore how such platforms operate in Taiwan. This study also introduces existing legislation regarding crowdfunding as a reference for Taiwanese legislators. It is our hope that crowdfunding will be better employed in Taiwan in the future, so small firms might have a better chance of growing, and people with innovative ideas will have access to the resources they need to fulfill their dreams.
