This research’s topic is " The Study of News Photo Representation for 318 Sunflower Student Movement". It will examine four major newspapers in Taiwan, including China Times, United Daily News, The Liberty Times, and Apple Daily and the timeframe covers from March 19, 2014 to April 11, 2014, 24 days altogether. Through content analysis, this research will look into how the four newspapers make media representation and represent the whole process of the 318 Sunflower Student Movement at that moment.
Research methods employed in this study are "content analysis" and "text analysis," examining the news photos and pictures narrative, through this way to understand the perspective and focus about the news coverage of 318 Sunflower Student Movement by these four newspapers angle and whether their different political positions result in different angle of news coverage in terms of content and direction.
Through content analysis, this research is going to analyze the number of news photos during these 24 days, and the differences and changes in the content of the newspaper reports. And text analysis is applied to interpret the content of news photographs, and in view of semiotics to interpret the news photos, and, in the end, to compare the media representation of these four newspapers.
