The innovation project usually faces unexpected obstacles during commercialization process, but a well-developed business model will be critical for the commercialization success. Hence, this study proposes that business model can be a tool to assess the business feasibility of an open innovation project, as business model development makes innovation development process in line with current market, customers, and competitive situation, so as to be successful in the market. Empirical observations from 35 open innovation projects of promoting program for cross-field creative scenario value-adding of Ministry of Science and Technology reveal that projects with complete business model have higher possibility of commercialization success. Hence, a robust project should have a complete business model, to allow innovation process to capture value from the market, and to have the function effectiveness to the well-being and society.
