To regulate and control the market, it is hardly surprising that the Taiwanese government has introduced a number of measures (such as credit control and the Selected Goods and Services Tax Act). In fact, real estate prices are only prohibitively high in northern Taiwan and the price levels in Kaohsiung City are still reasonable. However, the government interventions are applicable to all over Taiwan. This paper examines the impacts of government interventions on the real estate market in Kaohsiung City. This paper conducts a literature review by comparing the government interventions and outcomes in other countries with the government intervention and the results in Taiwan. The research findings indicate that (1) interventions cannot effectively curb the speculation in the real estate market; (2) real estate prices in Kaohsiung rise in response to government interventions.
