SUMMARY
This study aimed to investigate the strain factors, negative emotion, resilience, deviant behavior and to examine the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship among strain, negative emotion and deviant behavior. In this study, the results showed that not only strain factors had direct effects on negative emotion, but also had indirect effect on deviant behavior. In addition, resilience had direct effects on delinquent behavior, but not on the relationship among strain, negative emotion and deviant behavior. Finally, gender had direct effect on negative emotion、resilience and deviant behavior, but not on the relationship among strain, negative emotion and deviant behavior.
Key words: strain factors, negative emotion, resilience, deviant behavior
INTRODUCTION
Adolescence is a very important turning point; in this stage, the psychological development is not yet mature. However, they must face the tension or pressure from the surrounding. It is likely to cause them psychological discomfort or distress, coupled with the stage of teenagers, psychological changes drastically. The mood is very unstable with more impulse and anxiety.
There are many studies show that teenagers' deviant behavior and crime has become one of the serious social problems. Therefore, it is necessity to understand the factors related to adolescent deviant behavior.
METHOD
Sample in this study consisted of 615 students (49.4% men and 50.6%women) from (8 junior high schools) in Tainan. The methods of data analysis were used, including descriptive statistics analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) to verify the hypothesis testing. Questionnaire design of this study was mainly based on the development of research infrastructure, including strain factors, negative emotion, resilience and deviant behavior. A total of 615 valid cases in this study. In the factor analysis and reliability analysis, the collected data were analyzed by SPSS software, regardless of the result Factor loading, Communality, or Cronbach α, etc. were up to standard, showing the ability to have a good explanation and credibility.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to examine relationships among strain factors, negative emotion, resilience and deviant behavior. To test the research hypotheses, this study primarily used the structural equation modeling (SEM) to assess relationships across various dimensions. The present study of major results including:(a) negative life events, life hassles, negative relationships with others, and victim experiences had direct effects on deviant behavior;(b)not only strain factors had direct effects on negative emotion, but also had indirect effect on deviant behavior;(c) resilience had direct effects on delinquent behavior, but not on the relationship among strain, negative emotion and deviant behavior;(d) gender had direct effect on negative emotion、resilience and deviant behavior, but not on the relationship among strain, negative emotion and deviant behavior.
CONCLUSION
According to the findings in the study, we can infer that:(1) strain factors will directly affect the negative emotions and deviation behavior, and will indirectly affect the deviation behavior through negative emotions. Adolescents who face more tensions in life have more negative emotions and deviant behavior.(2) resilience will directly prevent the development of deviant behavior. (3) Males and females have different reactions in facing strain situation. Male students are more likely to develop deviant behavior directly, while females have negative emotion as an impact of mediation on the relationship between strain factors and deviation behavior.
