Methods: The division I collegiate athletes were recruited and divided into types of classify sports, ball sports and other sports by sports events. A questionnaire survey was used in this study, participants completed the questionnaire which contained two sections: 1) basic profile: consisted of gender, age, sports event, the level of performance and the experience of nutritional course. 2) nutrition knowledge: consisted of general and sports nutrition knowledge (65 questions). The answers of “positive” responses (1 point) and “negative responses”, “do not know” (0 point). One-way ANOVA was used to compare general nutrition knowledge scores and sports nutrition knowledge scores among types of sport, levels of performance and experience of nutritional course. The difference of nutrition knowledge scores and correct response rate between male and female were analyzed by independent t-test and chi-square test. Statistical significance level set at α = .05. Results: Two hundred and sixty-two questionnaires were distributed to athletes and two hundred and forty questionnaires were received which 121 from male and 119 from female. The overall nutrition knowledge scores in division I collegiate athletes were 31.58±8.3 (the correct response rate were 48.59%±12.8%). The general nutrition knowledge scores and sports nutrition knowledge scores were 22.43±6.2 (the correct response rate were 47.73%±13.3%) and 9.15±2.8 (the correct response rate were 50.83%±15.3%), respectively. There were no differences among types of sport and levels of performance in the nutrition knowledge scores. The overall nutrition knowledge scores and sports nutrition knowledge scores of the athletes whom didn’t take the nutritional course were significant lower than the others. The general nutrition knowledge scores in female were significant higher than male. Conclusion: The division Ι collegiate athletes lacked of properly nutrition knowledge. The results of present study also show that the female athletes and the athletes whom took the nutritional course had better nutrition knowledge.
