碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 諮商與臨床心理學系 === 103 === The purpose of this study is to explore counselors’ experiences of the counseling relationship while working with adult women who are survivors of child sexual abused. The study explores the overall development of counseling relationship, the causal conditions before counseling, the progress of counseling, and the intervening conditions. The data are collected from eight qualified counselors with the methods of purposive sampling and semi-structured interviews, and the findings are analyzed through open coding and axial coding of the grounded theory method. The findings of the study indicate that it is difficult for counselors to build up relationship with the clients due to childhood sexual abuse which might result in mistrust and negative effects on their beliefs of self and interpersonal relationship. Furthermore, it is implied that counselors’ gender and role may influence the relationship of counselors and clients, therefore clients should be empowered first. During the working stage, it is difficult for clients to make self-disclosure, especially for the clients who are victims of incest or who have negative supportive systems, thus counselors have to pay more attention to it. In reality, counseling relationship is constructed by counselors and clients. The counseling progress will also be indirectly influenced by negative attitude under social and culture context or negative supportive systems. Four crucial findings are demonstrated in this study. First, working with issues of trauma recovery might bring some damages to counselors, their development and health care should not be ignored. Second, it is clients’ difficulties of self-disclosure that causes repetition of “back and forth” during counseling process. Third, the counseling relationship is the key point to assist clients to undergo their new experiences of interpersonal relationship. Finally, the degree of clients’ autonomy and self-control determine the degree of internal trauma. Implications for workers in practice are discussed in this study as well.
