SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) enhances the development of the concept of application-layer mobility. This thesis further studies and analyzes the mobility mechanisms. Then, this thesis proposes a novel SIP-based mobility mechanism to improve the handover performance. This thesis describes the SIP protocol for mobility support and analyzes the advantages of SIP. This thesis performs various mobility scenarios to understand the actions of the operating system. Based on these results, this thesis designs a fast handover mechanism to reduce the delay time of signals transfer. The results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms the existing mechanisms.
