碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 美術學系 === 103 === Abstract Our writing characters are evolved from images, and the images are concrete form, characters are just abstract lines. Writing and painting are totally different ways of using pen, but the process from penmanship to drawing is adopting abstruse calligraphy techniques in painting. Due to the brushwork of painting and calligraphy are seems in similar way, but it depends on different people in diversities. From penmanship to drawing, it seems that ascending to both abstract painting and practical linearity. Pen and ink are both the basic structure of calligraphy and painting. The difference is the way of using pen and ink, so can bring into the form and structure of painting,with ink, which is able to show the painting and calligraphy’s contrast. So it seems that painting and calligraphy are homologous, calligraphy lines of fonts may form contour, and besides, we may find out the skillful type of fonts which the artist good at.Shen Yao-Tsu good at lishu (an ancient style of calligraphy current in the Han Dynasty) and were respected due to his monumental stele works, besides, he strongly advocating epigraphy. In addition Zhao'an painting school, there’re many scholars attribute them as " epigraphy painting school".Artists draw objects’physical form with mighty sketches, making the tableau show us simple, innocent and gentle charm the artists never established previously. It is so importance to imitate under masters. Reproducing is not only a continuation of masters’greatness but also involves deep into the mental disciplines. Shen Yao-Tsu value space composition in his works. By contrast of ink to present the difference of foreground and background, in order to generate the virtual and realistic layer of picture to make analogical effect.Make more use of "less linear" technique and way of block mass coloring showing artist’s sincere and unsophisticated personality. Shen Yao-Tsu is an important painter across the Taiwan Strait. He was from traditional agricultural society, the traditional lives across the Taiwan Traits are almost the same, rural life, also his subject. The importance of traditional Chinese painting is "poetic imagery ", no restricted by the traditional skills. Shen Yao-Tsu adopted wild Cursive brushwork skills to paint, so most of his works using freehand brushwork. Artist transmit his mental subject to viewers through the visual message to express the connotation of artist himself.
