ABSTRACT
Statues of the gods be transformed into concrete symbol by people, is the subject of folk ritual, is sustenance of people's minds, but also is the media of communicate with the gods.
When we devout worship of the gods, you can feel the majesty of the gods through the statues. It transformed into spiritual beliefs in people's minds. Contains the faith of culture.
Statues carved affect the development of folk beliefs,It is a major areas of Taiwan's traditional crafts. Every era has kept the beauty of the art of carving.
With the changing times, the statue is an objects of antique collection and appreciation of art . After the change from the statue carving art. Learn believers and artisans insisted on art. It is changs the perception of artistic value.
In Tiger's image and legend, representing brave and great vitality, with great of good omen, can ward off evil spirits, there are good and bad in the sense implied. Tiger has the protection of God, drive the demon slayer. Taiwanese say "HOYA" is meaning wealthy.
Tiger statues on folk beliefs potentially profound significance. Each shapes of Tiger statue is not same. The tiger carve is carved by craftman,with a rich and diverse variety of shapes, is worthy of detailed study and appreciation.
Therefore, this study targets tiger woodcarving analysis by material, shape, painted, according to the different periods of woodcarving Tiger shapes were discussed. To provide collectors, craftsmen and followers know Tiger woodcarving.
