However, the number of patients with chronic diseases complicated by respiratory failure is increasing annually. Patients dependent on respirators require high-quality care environments and continuous professional care. Because care services currently provide in respiratory care wards vary in quality, comprehensive care for patients chronically dependent on respirators warrants in-depth investigation. The main purpose of this study is to explore the key factors affecting the quality of respiratory care wards through weighted analysis to provide long-term respiratory care facilities with a reference for planning medical services. Research Method: The research methods were divided into two parts: qualitative and quantitative. For the qualitative method, according to the modified Delphi method, the preliminary key factors including major and sub key factors were acquired through a literature review. Expert questionnaires then were used to confirm the key factors, and a mind map of the key factors were completed. For the quantitative method, the decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method was adopted to analyze the degree of relevance and influence of the major key factors, and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was adopted to compute the weights and the priority of the sub-key factors. Finally, these results were integrated to complete a mind mapping decision model. Results and Discussion: The qualitative results confirmed by 16 experts after completing two rounds of expert questionnaire revealed five major key factors and 20 sub-key factors. The quantitative results obtained using the DEMATEL method revealed that the major key factor “management of care quality” yielded the highest level of relevance among the major key factors, and was the most considerable factor influenced by other factors. “Quality of medical personnel” was also a crucial factor that influenced other factors. The sub-key factor result determined using the AHP indicated that “medical equipment,” “clinical experience,” “evaluation and implementation of ventilator weaning,” “prevention of nosocomial infection,” and “resource integration services” yielded the highest weighting under the major key factors branch that they belong to. The qualitative and quantitative results were integrated and presented entirely by using a mind map, which can provide crucial information as a mind mapping decision model regarding decision making or resource distribution.
