Actually, most of the aging people (over 65) have the ability to take care of themselves, and some warm concerns, medical advices, and timely reminders can effectively improve their living quality. Moreover, dementia is a worth noting disease in elderly people. Therefore, an automatic system to track and record elderly people’s daily life and activities is required. In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) is the one of the most popular topic, in which device can be connected with each other via networks. Currently, home automation is one of the most popular IoT applications, in which all home appliances can be controlled via a PC or the smart phone. In this paper, to improve elderly people’s living convenience, mind health, and long-term care, we propose a Long-term cArE-based Smart hOme platform (LAESO), which integrates wearable devices, sensor networks, social networks, and the cloud computing. The proposed platform combines with a variety of services, such as home automation, activity detection and log, e-Care, lost elderly searching, and intruder detection. Home automation and activity detection and log are two foundations of the platform. To detect activities, we use SPADE (Sequential PAttern Discovery using Equivalence classes) algorithm to determine the elderly’s activity. Every activity is logged on to the log. Through the log, family members or caregivers are able to understand and observe the daily life and activity changes of the elderly even if they are not around them, and then provide their cares or medical advices accordingly. Furthermore, exploiting existing infrared sensors and wireless signals in the WSN (Wireless Sensor Networks), we implement intruder detection service for safety purpose. Our real prototyping experience and some experimental results are also reported. Jen-Jee Chen 陳建志 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 64 en_US
