碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 國語文學系中國文學碩士在職專班 === 103 === Since mid 1980s, artists in Taiwan have started to usher the presentation of comics and animations or ready-made images in works; their perspectives of using cartoons and images differ. As a Taiwanese artist of a new generation, Lai Chiu-Chen has distinctive academic tradition; his works feature elements of diversification. How does he integrate cartoons and images into his paintings? What influence do his seniors and peers have on him? What are the differences and similarities? Those are worthy of discussion. The contents of this study start off on the development of art in Taiwan after the war; pop art and abstract art is the key to development that we need to clarify, which helps analyze works and versions in the second section. This section sorts out the development of abstract art in Taiwan and the use of cartoons and images in Taiwanese art. An apprentice context (Li Zhong-Sheng --- Chu De-Yi --- Lai Chiu-Chen) is regarded as the core idea of Lai Chiu-Chen’s art. The similarities of Liu Shi-Dong’s Lai Chiu-Chen’s works are discussed. It analyzes medium languages, symbolic elements and ways of assembling and attempts to interpret the contexts and humble presentation of images as the cultural meaning against any forms of hegemony; reversing and playing in the time and space of scenes, which is a possible way to develop artistic creation.
