This research put to use separate sample pretest-posttest design of quasi-experimental research and two eighth graders’ classes of a comprehensive junior-senior high school, seventy students in total, were targeted as subjects. Thirty-five students were assigned to control group and underwent eighteen-time reading discussion instruction within nine weeks. The rest of subjects were assigned to experiment group and underwent eighteen-time self-reading within nine weeks. This research employed two sub-questionnaires, namely Environmental Recognition Test and Environmental Attitude Questionnaire, which were included in the Environmental Literacy Questionnaire compiled by the researcher. The two sub-questionnaires were viewed as research tools to undergo pretest and posttest with one-way ANCOVA and to understand whether the performance of students in the two groups in the Environmental Literacy Questionnaire had significant difference after receiving different experiment treatments. The main results of the research are as follows: 1.The reading discussion instruction of nature writing texts has positive effect on eighth graders’ environmental literacy.2.Students hold positive perspectives towards reading discussion instruction activities with nature writing texts.3.Teachers carrying on nature writing texts with reading discussion instruction effectively promote students’ motivation and language skills about learning related knowledge of environmental ecology. 4.Predicaments and solution strategies teachers encounter while carrying on nature writing texts with reading discussion instruction:(1)Make good use of guide strategy and encourage students to share the situations so as to improve competitive reply of group discussion and misleading and confusing points in the process of writing learning worksheet.(2)Increase the opportunities that disadvantaged students can be supported and affirmed by peers and decrease the phenomenon students with high ability dominate group discussion in the process of competitive reply.(3)Encourage and praise properly to avoid the phenomenon of vicious competition and overdependence on reward system in the process of group competitive reply.
